Ah, Madison. I have to say that we in Milwaukee always considered you the endearing yet unabashedly liberal younger brother who tried a semester at a vaguely-reputable state school before becoming a barista at the local coffee store/bookshop who writes free verse poetry in his spare time. You mean good, but the execution isn’t quite to our taste.
Whenever someone floats a crazy idea in Milwaukee (organic food, bicycles, et al), a common response is “Yuh, maybe in MADISON.” Then we go back to shooting each other.

and that really is the way milwaukeeans think of madison. it’s true. my dad refers to madison as “prom: the people’s republic of madison”. all the time.
